Dr. D. J. Wesley possesses an impressive academic record. He has a Associate of Arts in English from Southwestern Christian College, Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Masters degree in Bible from Abilene Christian University. He also has a M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Sacred Theology from Yale University Divinity School. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary and a PhD degree in Theology, Ethics and Culture from the prestigious Claremont Graduate University.
Dr. Wesley was ordained out of the Fourth Episcopal District by the late Bishop Thomas Hoyt. He has served as pastor for St. James CME Church in Salinas, CA where he grew church from 15 active members to nearly 100 members in just a period of 4 years. He also served as pastor for the Hayes Chapel CME Church in Seaside, CA before transferring to Southern California Region. In addition to serving as a Navy Chaplain, Dr. Wesley has also served as adjunct professor of religion and philosophy for Barstow College and Central Texas College.
His current publication is a book chapter entitled “Let the Redeemed of the Lord Say: Viewing Rap Music as a Form of African American Spirituality” in Andre Johnson’s edited book Toward an Urban God-Talk,
He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and is married to the former Vivian Figueroa and has two stepchildren, Xiomara and Vitaliano Stafford
